Necromancy

Granted by Vivamort, Mallan, Nephthys, and Balance.

Necromantic miracles generally affect only corpses which have not been laid to rest; the spirits which enter the body to enact the miracle's effects cannot enter a still-living body, and laying the corpse to rest prevents any further entry. The spirits involved in necromancy are not the same thing as a soul which has died, but rather are extensions of the dieties will and, for the more powerful undead, expect some of the same respect as you would show to your deity. Many rites exist to affect the kind of undead produced and their capabilities; some of these will be known to all priests with necromancy, some only to the priests of specific gods, and others must be sought-out in play.

Level 1: Speak to Corpse

Range: Touch
Duration: 5 minutes or until ended

The spirits of your deity flow through the corpse, and can tell some details about its life. They can empower the corpse to speak, but not to move or see. The spirits within the corpse cannot access the memories of the deceased, which have passed on with the soul, but may be able to give you an idea about what the person did while they were alive by understanding the condition of the body, and may in some cases be able to give some insight into how people died. This miracle cannot be used on a body which has been laid to rest, as the doorways allowing spirits access to the body have been closed.

Level 2: Empower Minion

Range: Touch
Duration: Until Destroyed

This miracle will remove the soul from a dead body (if present), and invite a spirit of your deity to take up residence within. This miracle will have no effect on bodies which have been laid to rest. The binding between the spirit and host is weak, and so such undead are generally not capable of intelligent action or coordinated movement. They are bound to follow the commands of any priest of your deity. This miracle will create a Zombie as standard, but rites exist to allow the creation of different lesser undead with this miracle instead.

Level 3: Raise Death's Head

Range: Target
Duration: 30s
Effect: Spirits of your deity assault the spiritual connection between the target's body and soul, causing no real harm but inflicting on them a feeling of grim death and terrifying them with visions of creatures from beyond the grave. Call "Target, SMITE LIVING REPEL 30!"

Level 4: Empower Incorporeal

Range: Touch
Duration: Until Destroyed

This miracle sculpts the remaining spiritual essence in a body into a form capable of holding a spirit of your deity. As part of this process, the soul is sent on, leaving behind a body which may also become an undead with time or an appropriate miracle. The form of this undead is ethereal, resulting in difficulties in interacting with the material world, but also making it difficult to assault by mundane means. They are bound to follow the commands of any priest of your deity. This miracle will create a ghost as standard, but rites exist to allow the creation of different spectral undead with this miracle instead.

Level 5: Empower Champion

Range: Touch
Duration: Until destroyed
Effect: You invite a powerful spirit of your deity to take possession of a suitable corpse or soul. As usual, this will remove any soul already present in the body and cannot be sucessfully cast on corpses which have been laid to rest. The creature created by application of this miracle to a suitable corpse is a wight. It is under no compulsion to obey any orders given it, though it may well choose to show its creator the respect due their station.

Level 6: Rupture the Viscera of Death

Duration: 30 seconds
Range: Mass

Eager spirits of your god fill the air, attempting to force themselves into the bodies of all nearby and condensing an atmosphere of pure terror. Call "SMITE LIVING MASS REPEL 30".

Level 7: Summon Undead Lord

Range: Touch
Duration: Until destroyed
Effect: You invite an angel of your deity to take possession of a suitable vessel. The creature created by application of this miracle without additional rites is a vampire, which will show its summoner the respect due a powerful necromancer who peremptorily summoned, rather than properly cajoled and invited, an equal. It is under no compulsion whatsoever to obey any orders given it.
